Local Information
Perhaps best known for Kenilworth Castle, the town has other significant landmarks including St Nicholas Church, Kenilworth Clock and Abbey Fields. It is located in Warwickshire and settlements have existed in the Kenilworth area since the days of Domesday Book which refers to the town as Chinewrde. It is thought that the Little Virginia area of the town is where potatoes (brought back from South America by Sir Walter Raleigh) were first planted in England. The arrival of the railway boosted Kenilworths market gardening and their tomatoes had a reputation for high quality, especially in London. At the height of production, Kenilworth is reputed to have as many as forty nurseries growing market prodcue. Now regarded as a dormitory town for commuters to Coventry, Birmingham and Leamington Spa, Kenilworth is also sometimes considered dull and suburban due to the high elderly population. However, Kenilworth is a town of historical importance, Henry III is said to have held Parliament there in 1266. Unfrotunately, little remains now of the original settlement, most of the existing older buildings are on Castle Green, New Row and High Street
Suburbs include St Johns, Windy Arbour, Whitemoor, Ladyes Hill, Crackley, Castle End and Abbey End
