Local Information

Newport, located on the River Usk, is Wales third largest city and is undergoing a major regeneration programme. Projects include the Riverfronts Arts Centre and the recently opened Newport City Footbridge, redevelopment of the Cambrian Centre, a new shopping complex called Friars Walk, a five star Ramada Plaza hotel and a new M4 bypass to reduce congestion and make the city more accessible. Newport is home to a number of annual sporting events including the World Cup of Pool, the Wales Open European Tour golf tournament and the Welsh Open world ranking snooker tournament. Newport Rugby Club is famous worldwide for being only one of a few clubs to beat all the southern hemisphere sides. The city also has one of the few indoor velodromes in the UK as well as a speedway track - home of the the Newport Wasps speedway team.
