Local Information
Wick is an estuary town in the highland area of Scotland straddling Wick River and extending along both sides of the Wick Bay. In the area of Pulteneytown, on the south side of the river, is Wick Harbour and the Old Pulteney Distillery. The latter is an aging malt whisky distillery named after Sir William Johnstone Pulteney from whom the area also gets its name. Pulteneytown was deliberately designed in the early 19th century to be a fishing town and harbour at the estuary of the Wick River. The area expanded further during the 19th century herring boom, the Wick Heritage Musuem has collections detailing Pulteneytowns history. Other attractions include the site of the Old Man of Wick, as the castle is sometimes known, which was built in the 12th century. A tall tower on the cliff edge is all that remains of the original four storey building. Wick also has Ebenezer Place, recently confirmed by the Guiness Book of World Records as the worlds shortest street. At just over two metres long, it only has one front door on it
