Exmoor National Park - From the end of the Ice Age man has lived and hunted in this beautiful moorland and coastal area. He has shared the rugged valleys and hills with red deer, the famous Exmoor ponies, rare wild flowers, animals and a huge variety of birds. The whole area is a bird watchers delight because of the many differing habitats ranging from woodland, heath, moor, farmland and cliffs to name a few. Expect to see Tits and Goldfinches along with Kingfishers which are often spotted landing in the roots of the trees along the rivers. The rarer Knot, Whimbrel, and Little Stint have been spotted from the coastal paths.

The Exmoor National Park high moors are great for walking, kite flying, horse riding and cycling. The whole area is crossed with trails and paths with the south west path starting at Minehead. This path passes the spectacular Valley of Rocks which is near Lynton and famous for wild goats and legends about the unusual rock formations.
There are many hamlets and villages where you can sit back and enjoy a pot of tea, homemade scones and cakes with fresh double cream. Picturesque Dunster, a medieval village, boasts a National Trust castle, many and varied small tourist shops, cafes, county inns and a mill amongst other delights. Taking an organised Land Rover safari tour of Exmoor is highly recommended to see the historic and unusual finds off the normal visitor trails.
Coastal Lynmouth is at the entrance to two densely wooded gorges. A popular one and a half mile walk is taken by following the river, crossing over bridges and following a well marked trail up on the side of the gorge and down to the N.T.'s highly scenic Watersmeet with its welcoming tearooms and views of the turbulent waters.
